What is Scouts BSA?
Scouts BSA is a program under the Boy Scouts of America. Starting February 2019, the Boy Scouts have opened up their organization to include girls. The rank and merit badge requirements have all remained the same, and girls and boys are in separate troops.
How old do I have to be to join?
Scouts BSA is open to youths aged 11-17 years old.
How often do you meet?
We meet every Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 at Celebration Lutheran Church in Westland.
What activities do you do?
We go hiking, swimming, archery, canoeing, and other outdoor activities. There are also many community service activities we do throughout the year.
How often do you go camping?
We go on weekend campouts every month and during the summer we attend a week long summer camp.
How is the troop organized?
Our troop is scout led, meaning the scouts plan the activities and run the meetings, the adults are just there to supervise and provide guidance when needed. The troop is broken up into 2 patrols, which allows for scouts to interact in a smaller group. Each patrol is led by a Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader. The overall troop is led by a Senior and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. The Quartermaster keeps track of troop equipment, the Scribe keeps track of troop records, the Historian is in charge of documenting our activities through photos. And the webmaster maintains the troop website. All of these positions are held by scouts in the troop.
